OBITUARY

It is with deep sorrow that the Department mourns the passing of our esteemed and beloved faculty member Dr Anindita Dey on 23rd December 2025 in Spain.

Her loss is profoundly felt by all who had the privilege of working alongside her. A dedicated academic and mentor, she was known for her intellectual rigour, professionalism and integrity. Beyond her scholarly achievements, she will be remembered for her kindness, approachability, and unwavering support to the department community. Her presence enriched our department, and her absence leaves a void that cannot be easily filled.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones. Her memory will continue to inspire us, and her legacy will endure in the lives she touched.

Welcome to Department of Geology

Message from Head of the Department, Prof. Pankaj Srivastava

Department of Geology at the University of Delhi is one of the premier learning centres for geoscience in India. It was established in 1966 by Prof. A.G. Jhingran (former DG GSI) with the aim of providing useful education, conducting high-quality original research, and providing leadership in various disciplines of geosciences. A regular updating of curriculum syllabus and innovative methods of teaching our department have provided a strong reputation and influence in geoscience, both at national and international levels. Our dedicated faculty members undertake major scientific research projects that involve basic and advanced research and societal needs. Our department gives great importance to talent and encourages students and research scholars to make fundamental, strategic, original, and significant contributions to geoscience and society. I am grateful to those who care and support our endeavour. I am looking forward to our faculty and students scaling new heights in geoscience frontiers.
